My Bra Size

Fuller bust and plus size

Sports bras for big busts

A big bust needs a sports bra that holds each breast separately, with a firm band and adjustable straps. Get those right and running, jumping and HIIT feel very different.

What to search for on Amazon UK

Add your UK size to the search on Amazon (for example “34G”). Not sure of it? Use our bra size calculator first.

  1. 1

Encapsulation sports bra in cup sizes

Separate cups hold each breast on its own. Sold in band and cup sizes, it is the most supportive option for a big bust.

  2. 2

    Underwired high-impact sports bra

Wires add extra structure and shape, popular with fuller-bust runners.

  3. 3

Combination sports bra (encapsulation + compression)

Holds each breast and presses them gently to the chest, for the least movement.

  4. 4

    Front-adjustable sports bra

Straps that adjust at the front are easier to tighten mid-workout and suit limited shoulder mobility.

The best sports bra for a big bust holds each breast in its own cup (encapsulation), has a firm band that matches your underbust, and comes in band and cup sizes rather than S to XL. Those three things reduce movement more than anything else.

Encapsulation, compression or both?

  • Compression bras press the breasts against your chest. They suit smaller cups and low to medium impact.
  • Encapsulation bras have separate cups, like an everyday bra. They suit D cups and above.
  • Combination bras do both, for the least movement during running and jumping.

For high-impact exercise with a fuller bust, choose encapsulation or combination.

Features to look for

  • Band and cup sizing, such as 32G, not S, M, L.
  • A wide, firm band, often with a hook-and-eye fastening.
  • Adjustable straps, ideally padded, and a J-hook or racerback option to stop slipping.
  • Moisture-wicking fabric and smooth seams to prevent rubbing.

How to find your size

Use your everyday UK size as a starting point; if you are unsure of it, our bra size calculator gives one in a minute. Then do a movement test in the bra:

  1. Jog on the spot and jump. Your breasts should move with your body, not bounce separately.
  2. Raise your arms. The band should stay level, and no tissue should escape at the bottom.
  3. Breathe deeply. The band should be firm but not restrict your breathing.
  4. Check the straps do not dig in or slip.

Brands to search for

Shock Absorber, Panache Sport, Freya Active and Berlei all make high-impact sports bras in fuller cup sizes. For everyday bras, see our guide to bras for big busts.

Care

Wash cool after every workout and dry flat. Avoid fabric softener, which reduces wicking, and never tumble dry.

Questions people ask

What type of sports bra is best for a big bust?
An encapsulation or combination sports bra sold in band and cup sizes. Compression-only crop tops usually suit smaller cups and lower-impact exercise.
Should my sports bra be the same size as my everyday bra?
Start with the same UK size. Sports bras are firmer, so if the band feels too tight, try one band size up with one cup size down: your sister size.
How do I know if my sports bra is supportive enough?
Jog on the spot and jump in front of a mirror. Your breasts should move with your body, not separately. The band should stay level and the straps should not slip.
How often should I replace a sports bra?
When the band loosens, the straps no longer hold their length, or you notice more bounce. Washing cool and drying flat makes the elastic last longer.
