Non-wired bras with good support

Wire-free does not have to mean soft and shapeless. A well-made non-wired bra can lift and hold a fuller bust, if it has the right band and cup construction.

  1. 1

Non-wired bra with a deep underband

A wide, firm band under the cups takes the place of a wire and does most of the lifting.

  2. 2

    Non-wired moulded bra

Moulded cups hold their shape without wires and look smooth under clothes.

  3. 3

Wire-free bra in DD+ cup sizes

Sold in band and cup sizes, not S to XL, so it can fit a fuller bust properly.

  4. 4

    Non-wired bra with side slings

Inner side panels push tissue forward and stop the cups spreading outwards.

A non-wired bra gives good support when it has a firm, wide underband, cups sold in band and cup sizes, and side support to hold breast tissue forward. Without a wire, these features do the shaping and lifting instead.

What to look for in a supportive wire-free bra

  • A deep underband. A wide band below the cups anchors the bra and lifts from underneath.
  • Band and cup sizing. Bras sold as S, M, L can only approximate your cup. Sizes such as 36F fit far more closely.
  • Side slings or panels. These keep tissue facing forward rather than spreading towards your arms.
  • A higher centre front. It separates and holds each breast.
  • Wider, padded straps for fuller cups, to spread the load on your shoulders.

Which size should you buy?

Start with your usual UK size from our bra size calculator. Without wires, a cup that is too small can feel fine at first but squash tissue out at the sides. Check:

  1. The band is level and firm on the loosest hook.
  2. The cups fully hold your breasts, with no ridge at the top or sides.
  3. The centre front sits close to your breastbone.
  4. The straps carry some weight but do not dig in.

When to choose wire-free

Many people choose non-wired bras for everyday comfort, travel, sleeping or after surgery, or simply because they prefer them. If you need easy fastening as well, our guide to front fastening bras covers bras that open at the front. For the softest option, see seamless bras.

Brands to search for

Royce and Anita specialise in wire-free bras into fuller cup sizes, and many fuller-bust brands include non-wired styles. Check each brand’s size guide for its range.

Questions people ask

Can a non-wired bra support a big bust?
Yes. Look for a firm, wide underband, cups sold in proper band and cup sizes, side support panels and wider straps. Brands that specialise in wire-free bras make them into fuller cups.
Should I size up in a non-wired bra?
Start with your usual UK size. Without a wire to define the cup, a cup that is too small is easy to miss, so check there is no spilling at the top or sides.
Are non-wired bras better for you?
There is no evidence that underwires are harmful. A wire-free bra is a comfort choice. If wires dig in, the bra may simply be the wrong size; our bra fitting guide can help.
