- 1
Moulded strapless bra with a wide, silicone-lined band
The band does all the work without straps. A deep band with silicone grip along the top and bottom edges is the feature that stops a strapless bra sliding down.
- 2
Longline strapless (bustier style)
A longer band spreads the weight over more of your ribcage. It is the steadiest option for fuller cups and for long events.
- 3
Multiway strapless with detachable straps
Wear it strapless for the evening and clip the straps back on for everyday wear, so it earns its place in your drawer.
- 4
Strapless bra with side boning
Flexible boning at the sides stops the band rolling and keeps the cups upright under a fitted bodice.

A strapless bra for a large bust works when the band is firm, wide and grippy, and the cups fully enclose your breast tissue. Without straps, the band carries all of the weight, so the right size and construction matter more than in any other style.
What makes a strapless bra work for a fuller bust?
Four features do the heavy lifting:
- A wide band. Three or four hooks spread the load and stop the band from rolling.
- Silicone grip. Strips of silicone along the top and bottom of the band hold it against your skin.
- Side boning or side panels. These keep the cups upright and stop the sides folding inwards.
- Underwired, encased cups. Full-coverage moulded or seamed cups hold the breast in place instead of letting it spill over the top.
Strapless bras made for smaller cups often have a narrow band and shallow cups. They tend to slip on a D cup and above, even in the right size.
Which size should you buy?
Start with your usual UK size. If you do not know it, measure with our bra size calculator: it takes two measurements and gives a starting size.
When you try a strapless bra on, the band should feel snug on the loosest hook and stay level all the way round. If it feels secure with straps but loose without them, try your sister size: one band size down, one cup size up. For example, 36F becomes 34FF. Our sister size calculator shows the full family.
Do not go down a cup size to make the bra feel tighter. A small cup pushes breast tissue over the top and drags the bra down.
How should it look and feel?
Use the same checks as any bra, then add a movement test:
- The centre front sits flat against your breastbone.
- The wires sit behind your breast tissue at the sides, not on it.
- There is no gap or spill at the top of the cups.
- Lift your arms above your head and twist from side to side. The bra should stay put.
Our bra fitting guide explains each check in more detail, with a fit checker for common problems.
Strapless, longline or multiway?
Classic strapless bras sit at the usual band height and are the least visible under a strapless dress. Longline styles extend down the ribcage, which gives more stability and suits fitted bodices and long events. Multiway bras come with removable straps, so you can wear them strapless, halterneck or cross-back. Read more in our guide to multiway bras.
If your dress has a low or open back as well, see our guide to the bra for a backless dress.
Brands to search for
UK fuller-bust brands that make strapless bras include Panache, Freya, Fantasie and Curvy Kate, and Wacoal makes a well-known multiway strapless style. Ranges change by season, so check each brand’s size guide. Our brand size guides explain how Freya, Panache, Curvy Kate and others label their sizes.
Care tips that help it last
Hand wash in cool water, or use a mesh laundry bag on a delicate cycle. Do not tumble dry: heat damages the silicone grip and the elastic. Store moulded cups flat or nested, not folded in half.
