Sleep bras for comfortable nights

A sleep bra is a soft, wire-free bra made to wear in bed. Some people sleep better with gentle support, especially with a fuller bust, in pregnancy or while feeding.

    Crossover cotton sleep bra

A soft wrap front that pulls on, with no hooks to lie on.

  2. 2

    Seamless pull-on sleep bra

Knitted in one piece, so there are no seams or edges to press into you at night.

  3. 3

Sleep bra for a fuller bust

Wider bands and deeper cups give gentle hold to a heavier bust when you lie on your side.

A sleep bra is a soft, wire-free bra designed to be worn in bed. It holds your breasts gently so they do not move uncomfortably when you turn over, without the firm band and wires of a daytime bra.

Who finds a sleep bra helpful?

  • Fuller busts, where breasts pull to the side when you lie down.
  • Pregnancy, when breasts can feel tender.
  • Breastfeeding, to hold breast pads in place. See our nursing bras guide.
  • After surgery, if your care team recommends it. See our guide to post-surgery bras.

It is entirely a comfort choice. There is no good evidence that sleeping in a bra prevents sagging, and there is no harm in sleeping without one.

What to look for

  • No wires and no hooks at the back, so there is nothing to lie on.
  • Soft, breathable fabric such as cotton, bamboo or modal.
  • A wide, gentle band that stays put without digging in.
  • A crossover or pull-on front that is easy to take on and off.

How should a sleep bra fit?

Softer than a day bra, but not loose. Many are sized S to XL; use your UK size from our bra size calculator to find yours on the maker’s chart. The band should not roll up or leave marks by morning, and the cups should hold your breasts without squashing them. If the band leaves deep marks, go up a size.

Care

Wash cool and dry flat or on a line. Soft knits lose their shape in a tumble dryer.

Questions people ask

Is it bad to sleep in a bra?
No. It is a matter of comfort. A soft, wire-free bra that fits well is fine to sleep in. Avoid tight bands or wires overnight.
Does sleeping in a bra stop sagging?
There is no good evidence that wearing a bra at night prevents breasts from sagging. Wear one if it makes you more comfortable.
What size sleep bra should I buy?
Sleep bras are often sold in S to XL. Match your UK band and cup size to the maker’s chart; if you are between sizes, choose the larger one for a looser night-time fit.
