Nipple covers are thin, round covers that sit over each nipple to stop it showing through clothes. They are made from silicone, fabric or foam, with or without adhesive, and can be worn alone under backless outfits or inside a bra for a smoother line.
Types of nipple cover
- Silicone with adhesive. Feathered edges blend into skin and stay put without a bra. Reusable when washed.
- Fabric or satin. Matte, light and less likely to show a sheen under silk. Often single-use or limited reuse.
- Non-adhesive. Stay in place by friction or a light grip coating. Best inside a bra or bralette.
- Lift covers. Shaped to add a little lift. They help on smaller cups, but are no substitute for boob tape on fuller busts.

Getting the size and shade right
The cover should be slightly wider than your areola, so the edge lies on smooth skin, not over a raised area. For shade, match the cover to the skin around it rather than to your nipple. Under white or pale fabric, a skin-tone cover is less visible than a white one.
How to wear them
- Apply to clean, dry skin with no oils, lotion or perfume on your chest.
- Turn the cover slightly inside out, place the centre first, then smooth the edges outwards.
- Press for a few seconds so body heat helps the adhesive grip.
For a fully backless look with more support, combine covers with boob tape or a stick-on bra.
Cleaning and care
Rinse silicone covers in warm water with a little mild soap, let them air dry adhesive side up, and store them in their case or on the film they came with. Avoid tissues and towels: fluff stops the adhesive working.

Nipple covers for sensitive skin
Patch test first, choose non-adhesive or medical-grade adhesive covers, and never wear them on broken or irritated skin. If skin feels sore, remove them and give it a day or two to recover.
